Emma Ruth Rundle shared “Enough” this week, the second single from her forthcoming album These Killing Times, due September 18 on Errant Child. It follows lead single “Powerless” and keeps the record’s atmospheric pull intact, with Patrick Shiroishi’s saxophone and Jess Gowrie’s drums widening out Rundle’s usual guitar-and-voice gravity into something bigger and more unsettled.

“‘Enough’ is inspired by the ‘Man Who Sold The World’ — and in a retelling of the story of Elijah, we imagine him as an Elon Musk type figure — we ask — is not the whole world enough?” Rundle said of the song. The accompanying video, co-directed by Rundle, Mason Rose, and Blake Armstrong, was filmed on a rocky beach at night, all cold light and open space, which tracks: this is a song about wanting past the point of reason, staged somewhere with no edges.

Two singles into These Killing Times, Rundle is doing what she’s always done best — turning scale and doubt into something you can actually feel in your chest — just with a bigger band behind her this time.
