Fujiya & Miyagi Announce New Album 'New Shiny Object,' Share 'Lowest Common Denominator'

Fujiya & Miyagi are back with news of a tenth album. New Shiny Object is set for release October 30 via Impossible Objects Of Desire, the band’s own label, and arrives with lead single “Lowest Common Denominator” out now.

Frontman David Best described the single’s mandate plainly: “Its main aim is to make people dance which I think is as valid reason as any other for a song to exist.” On the record as a whole, he said he wanted the band to “write melodies that really touched people,” adding that “music’s better when it’s got a bit of space” — a fitting description for a group that’s spent two decades turning motorik basslines and dry wit into some of British indie’s most quietly danceable records.

The nine-track album follows 2022’s Slight Variations and comes with a self-directed video for the new single. No tour dates have been announced yet, but a record this loose-limbed practically guarantees a run of sweaty club shows once it lands.
