Lucy Dacus Turns Newport Folk Into a Guest-Star Bonanza With Hayley Williams and Brandon Flowers

Lucy Dacus lit up Fort Adams State Park on July 25 with a Newport Folk Festival set built around surprise guests. Hayley Williams joined her for a duet on “Bullseye,” the standout from Dacus’s Forever Is A Feeling, while Madi Diaz came out to perform her own song “Heavy Metal,” a preview of her upcoming Fatal Optimist UN-unplugged.

The set closed with a genuine curveball: The Killers’ Brandon Flowers joined Dacus for a cover of Jim Croce’s 1972 classic “Time in a Bottle.” The collaborations extend a run of high-profile team-ups for Dacus, who has spent the past couple of years crossing paths with boygenius bandmate Phoebe Bridgers, Smidley, and Diaz on record and onstage.

Williams also played her own Newport set the same day with additional guest appearances, making it a banner afternoon for cross-genre collaboration at the historic folk festival.
