Mosswood Meltdown Turns Oakland Into a Punk Playground, Iggy Pop Headlines Day Two

Mosswood Meltdown, the John Waters-hosted punk and garage-rock festival now in its 12th year, took over Mosswood Park in Oakland July 17-19. Friday’s pre-party brought Pavement, Wednesday, and Vivian Girls to warm things up, before the festival proper kicked off Saturday with Iggy Pop headlining a bill stacked with Otoboke Beaver, Scowl, The Spits, The Dirtbombs, and Primitive Ring.

Sunday closes things out with Bikini Kill topping a lineup that includes The Dead Milkmen, Frankie and the Witch Fingers, and Frightwig — a fitting run for a festival that’s built its reputation on pairing legacy punk icons with the scene’s current chaos-agents.

Tickets and full set times are available through the Mosswood Meltdown website; the festival remains one of the more purely fun weekends on the Bay Area’s summer calendar.
