Nia Archives Returns with 'Emotional Junglist,' Her Boundless Second Album

We flagged it in last week’s release radar, and now it’s here: Nia Archives dropped Emotional Junglist on Friday, the follow-up to her 2024 debut Silence Is Loud. Out via her own HIJINXX imprint through Island, it’s another self-produced set that runs her beloved jungle and drum-and-bass breakbeats straight into indie-pop songwriting — this time with Sampha and Jorja Smith turning up as guests, and cuts like “Feelingz Go Numb,” “Around Tha Bend,” and “Get Me Down” doing the heavy lifting.

The reviews are landing on the warm side. DIY handed it four stars, calling it the sound of “an evolved Nia; she’s untethered and boundless, traversing the new without straying too far from the old” — which is about the nicest thing you can say about a second record from someone who arrived this fully formed. A breakup album you can still rave to; not a bad trick to pull twice.
