Rachel Chinouriri Announces Second Album 'I Think I Spoke Too Soon'

Rachel Chinouriri has announced her second album, I think I spoke too soon, set for release on October 16 — and she’s kicked things off with an immediate gut-punch of a lead single, “One song away from crying.”

The follow-up to her widely loved 2024 debut What A Devastating Turn Of Events (Parlophone / Atlas Artists) was written and recorded across London, Hereford, and Los Angeles, with a collaborator list that includes Mary Weitz, Glen Roberts, Daniel Hylton-Nuamah, and — in a genuinely exciting credit for anyone who’s been paying attention to the indie-rock side of the aisle — Lucy Dacus.

Chinouriri described the new single plainly: it’s “about the precipice of a night out where you know you need to leave and have to make a decision.” That’s the kind of specific, lived-in emotional geography that made her debut connect so hard in the first place — she’s never been an artist who reaches for the vague version of a feeling when the precise one is sitting right there. The single’s video was directed by Dora Paphides.

Two years ago, What A Devastating Turn Of Events did the hard work of establishing Chinouriri as one of the most clear-eyed voices in British indie, sitting with grief and identity without ever losing its melodic instincts. A title as blunt as I think I spoke too soon suggests she’s not interested in softening the follow-up, either. Mark October 16 down.
