Susanne Sundfør Announces New Album 'Revelations Of Divine Love,' Shares Ethereal Single 'I It Am'
Susanne Sundfør has announced her seventh studio album, Revelations Of Divine Love, arriving October 2 on Bella Union, and shared its hushed lead single, “I It Am.” Where past records have reached for maximalist synth-pop drama, this one goes the other way — recorded largely with pipe organ and voice inside a Norwegian church, with Kit Downes joining on keys.
“I wanted the opposite — soft, whispered, as understated as possible,” Sundfør said of the new material. “It’s about authenticity, not perfection.” The album takes its title and some of its imagery from Julian of Norwich’s 14th-century mystical text of the same name, filtered through a much more contemporary set of circumstances: Sundfør wrote much of it after becoming a mother of two and relocating to the countryside, a shift she’ve described as reshaping both her days and her sense of what a song needs to do.
It’s a quiet, patient left turn from an artist who’s spent her career refusing to make the same record twice — and on the evidence of “I It Am,” a fully convincing one. Revelations Of Divine Love is out October 2 via Bella Union.
