Asher White's 'Love Aggregates' Is a Breakup Record That Sounds Like Getting Out
Asher White had released fifteen albums on Bandcamp before Joyful Noise signed her in 2025. Love Aggregates, out August 28th, is her second album of 2026 alone. The credits are the story: composed, recorded, performed and mixed by White at The Mill in Providence and at home in Brooklyn, between July 2024 and October 2025. There is no producer credit, because there was no producer.

The Low-End: White’s own instrument list runs to acoustic and electric guitars, banjo, bass, chord organ, drones, drums and percussion, feedback, field recordings, glockenspiel, Max/MSP, monotribe, omnichord, prepared guitar, toy piano, upright piano and samples. Records built that way usually betray themselves in the bottom end, where a single player’s drums sit stiffly under everything. These don’t. Carl Saff’s mastering leaves the low end round rather than clamped.
The Spatial Dynamics: The guests are deployed with real economy — Jacob Davidson’s trumpet, Mari Rubio’s violin and Asa Turok’s trombone all appear on “My day at the casino,” Lila Lifton’s violin on “Jerryboy” and “Atoll,” and nowhere else. Bandcamp Daily’s Zoe Camp describes “a kaleidoscopic palette that encompasses everything from folk and jazz to orchestral pop and drum n’ bass.”
Standout Performance
White as her own mixer. Playing everything is a stunt; balancing everything is a craft, and the second one is what makes this listenable twice.
Why It’s Certified
It’s a breakup album that declines to mope — AllMusic’s Marcy Donelson calls it “a surprisingly (bitter)sweet, optimistic-sounding one.” Camp’s verdict: “This is what it sounds like when an artist graduates from ‘if-you-know-you-know’ to ‘need-to-know’.” Coverage is still light for a record this assured. “The eagle is no omen” and “Stage Diva” are where to start. Certified great.
