Cloud Canyons Stretch 70 Minutes Into a Single, Hypnotic Held Breath

Some records are built for the three-minute attention span and some records are built to dissolve it entirely. “Body Wisdom,” the second full-length from the Italian quartet Cloud Canyons, is firmly the latter — a 70-minute journey through psychedelia, ambient, techno, wave, and kosmische musik that asks you to stop checking the clock.

The Production & Mix
Nicola Caleffi’s analogue synthesizers and digital programming form the record’s backbone — sparse, patient, and deliberately unhurried, letting individual tones ring out rather than stacking everything at once. It’s a production choice that pays off across the album’s length: the relentless harmonic and rhythmic pulses never feel monotonous because there’s so much space built into the arrangements for them to breathe.
Standout Performance
The vocal work from Stella Baraldi, Michelle Cristofori, and Laura Storchi is the album’s secret weapon. Their layered, ecstatic vocals function less like traditional lead singing and more like another instrumental texture — mantra-like chants woven directly into the synth pulses rather than sitting on top of them, which is exactly what gives the record its incantatory, trance-inducing quality.
Track Highlights
⚡ “Resonance Drift” and “Mantle Of Light” show the band at their most patient, letting a single pulse slowly bloom outward.
🌈 The title track “Body Wisdom” arrives as the album’s emotional center, a shimmering pulse that feels like the hallucinated sight of a distant landscape finally coming into focus.
This is a record for headphones and an open evening — obscure by circumstance, not by quality.
