Lily Seabird's 'Lightspheres On Their Way' Is a Woodstove-Warm Level-Up
“A lightsphere can be so many things,” Lily Seabird told The Line of Best Fit — “an actual light like a star, the sun, a UFO; headlights, a flashlight in the night; but also life, living things, people, relationships.” That generosity of definition is the whole album in miniature. Recorded in the first days of 2026 at co-producer Garrett Linck’s woodstove-heated home in rural Maine, Lightspheres On Their Way is nine songs that keep widening their own frame.

The Production & Mix
The Low-End: Linck engineered and mixed as well as playing bass, guitar and EBow, with Rick Soszynski adding guitar, bass and lap steel — and the low end is treated as furniture rather than foundation, warm and slightly loose, mastered by Amar Lal with the room left in. The Spatial Dynamics: This is where the house pays off. Eliza Niemi’s cello, Sam Atallah’s trumpet, and Daniel Snyder’s harmonium and drums are placed like people standing at different distances, so the arrangements bloom outward instead of stacking upward. Paste, naming it a Paste Pick at A-, called it “the kind of record that breathes and moves to a rhythm all its own.”
Standout Performance
Seabird’s writing. “Election Day” — the lead single, and one Americana Highways called “my favorite rock song of 2026” — came out of a decision where both options hurt. “This song is about having to make a decision and both options are painful, confusing,” she explained; “I wrote this song on election day which works as a great metaphor for this in our current political climate but this song is not about voting.” The same outlet called the record “a level-up from even the excellent Trash Mountain.”
Why It’s Certified
Stereogum made it Album Of The Week, and the reason is audible from “The Pulley” onward: this is a small-room record that never once sounds small. “Portal to the Past,” “Slipswitch,” “The Afterglow,” and the closing title track each find a different way to let the arrangement go soft right when the writing goes hard.
