Team Dresch's 'Furthermore' Is a Thirty-Years-Later Masterpiece of Queercore Fire

Team Dresch haven’t released a full-length since 1996’s Captain My Captain. Furthermore, out September 18th on Jealous Butcher Records, closes that gap with twelve songs and zero rust. AllMusic’s verdict is the headline: it “sounds remarkably like they never left, with their multifaceted sound, articulate vocals, and empowering messaging entirely intact.”
The Sonic Breakdown
The Production & Mix
The Low-End: The band co-produced with Greg Griffith across two sessions — October 2025 and March 2026 — at Peacedale in Bristol, Connecticut, and handed the mix to John Goodmanson. Rachel Field mastered it. The result hits like a band in a room, not a nostalgia project in a spreadsheet.
The Spatial Dynamics: AllMusic maps the range: “Growing Underground” is “a snarling hard rocker,” half-chanted; “I’ve Really Become Some Thing” goes “more metal-esque”; “And Now Your Face” is “anthemic pop punk”; and closer “Protectors” is “a catchy, fuzzy indie rocker.” That’s four different tempers in one tracklist, and the mix gives each its own weather without losing the band’s shared voice.
Standout Performance
Greg Griffith doesn’t just produce — he steps in on lead guitar for “Heard A Bang” and adds guitar on “Still Your Room,” a producer literally playing his way into the record.
Why It’s Certified
Opener “One Song” addresses, as AllMusic notes, the frequent oppression of queer youth — and leads with it. Thirty years on, Team Dresch still open with the point. Still loud, still necessary.
Certified great.
